This session aims to present recent advances in medical image processing using deep learning (e.g., convolutional neural networks, auto encoders, generative adversarial networks, capsule networks, deep belief networks) and computational intelligence (e.g., multilayer perceptron, neuro-fuzzy, genetic algorithms). The objective of this special session is to advance scientific research of computational intelligence in medical image analysis. The session is going to foster the debate within the clinical domain of the most important breakthroughs in artificial intelligence techniques applied to medical imaging, boosting emerging transdisciplinary fields such as computational radiology and computational pathology. We invite researchers working in this area to submit their papers with latest results to this special session of IJCNN.

Topics of interest include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Segmentation and Classification of Medical Images
  • Anatomy Detection and Recognition in Medical Imaging
  • Medical Image Generation and Enhancement
  • Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning for Computational Pathology and Radiology
  • Detection and Discovery of Predictive and Prognostic Tissue Biomarkers
  • Medical Image Reconstruction and Super-Resolution
  • Computational Intelligence for Surgical Planning and Guidance

A wide range of medical image modalities are of interest: CT, MRI, US, PET, microscopic images, mammograms, dermoscopic images,  histological, among others.

 Submission Guidelines:

This special session will be held in 2020 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks-IJCNN (, a part of 2020 IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence ( ) (Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, July 19-24, 2020). All papers should be prepared according to the IJCNN 2020 policy and should be submitted electronically using the conference website ( ) . To submit your paper to this special session, you have to choose this special session on the submission page. All papers accepted and presented at IEEE IJCNN 2020 will be included in the conference proceedings published by IEEE Explore, which are typically indexed by EI.
