Professor Qiang Shen holds the Established Chair of Computer Science and is the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Faculty of Business and Physical Sciences at Aberystwyth University, UK. He has a PhD in Knowledge-Based Systems and a DSc (British Senior Doctorate) in Computational Intelligence. He is a Fellow and Council member of the Learned Society of Wales (the National Academy of Wales). His research interests include: computational intelligence, reasoning and learning under uncertainty, pattern recognition, data mining, and real-world applications of such techniques for intelligent decision support (e.g., crime detection, space exploration, consumer profiling, systems monitoring, and medical diagnosis).
Professor Shen has chaired (e.g., FUZZ-IEEE 2007) and presented keynotes at numerous international conferences, and has been a long-standing associate editor or editorial board member of a number of world-leading journals (e.g., IEEE TFS and IEEE TCYB). He has authored 2 research monographs and 400+ peer-reviewed papers (including one receiving IEEE Outstanding Paper Award), and has been the first supervisor of 60+ PDRAs/PhDs (including one UK Distinguished Dissertation Award winner).
